Tree Planting in Oakland
On August 22, 2009, Wendel Rosen was a sponsor of a tree planting, organized by Urban Releaf.
Urban Releaf provides school-year work opportunities for approximately 200 high school students a year. Through an on-the-job training program that utilizes computer programs to study the environmental benefits of trees, local youth learn job skills and math, science, and technology as they plant and care for trees.
Urban Releaf has planted and maintained more than 8,500 trees on median strips and public sidewalks in low income communities through the East Bay. The organization concentrates on predominantly low-to-moderate income neighborhoods in Oakland and Richmond, California.
